The Department of Malayalam started on 18th July 1964. The Head of the
Department was Sri. Kummini Vasudevan Nambooothiri joined as Lecturer on
01-09-1964. The B.A Degree course Malayalam was started in 1981. P.G
Semester course in Malayalam (Malayalam with journalism) was started
during 2001 with a total strength of 12 seats. Over the years,
department could produce a large number of outstanding graduates and
post graduates who in their later years reached at the heights of
different fields of life. Department is having an efficient alumni
working in various fields inside and outside of the country. The
Department is now preparing to become a research centre. A well settled
Departmental library with 3158 books. The library is rich with various
topic books like history of Malayalam literature,langauge,Literary
theories, poetries, Biographies, Novels, Criticism , Drams , short
stories , Film studies, Journalism, Screenplays,etc
